Wound is defined as any type of damage or break on the surface of skin. It can occur due to trauma, skin conditions or an underlying disease. There are various types of wounds:

Open wounds: These have an exposed underlying tissue and is open to outside environment. Open wounds includes the following -

• Incised wounds, which are caused by a clean sharp-edged object
• Lacerations are regular tear-like wounds caused by blunt trauma
• Abrasions where the superficial layer of skin is scraped off
• Puncture wounds, caused by an object puncturing theskin
• Penetration wounds, caused by an object, like knife, entering and coming out of skin

Closed wounds: These are not open to outside environment, and include-

• Hematomas, caused by damage to blood vessel causing blood to collect under the skin.
• Crush injuries

It is essential to properly clean the wound before closing and dressing it according to it'stype. Following steps should be followed for an open wound -

1. Stop the bleeding
2. Clean the wound with clean water and a saline solution
3. Close and dress the wound

Change the dressing every 24 hours

Action of Ingredients:

Calendula officinalis: C. officinalis exhibits antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, Phagocytosis of human granulocytes is known to be stimulated by polysaccharides in C. officinalis. It helps in rapid healing of wounds. Injuries, cuts, abrasions, lacerations, broken skin surface. Promotes healthy granulations and rapid healing by first intention. Prevents scar tissue formation. Antiseptic for sores, abscesses, infection at the site of a wounds. Arrests bleeding from wounds, especially to scalp, mouth. Burns, scalds, sunburns.
